How To Sync Scrivener With Your iPad

ipadscrivAny reader of this blog will know that I like to compose in Scrivener and, like the name of the company which develops Scrivener (Literature and Latte), I love coffee too. The best place to drink coffee is in a coffee shop and a problem with being a writer is a very real threat of becoming an agoraphobic. If you put all of these things together then you end up with a simple problem; I want to use Scrivener in a coffee shop.

The iPad version of Scrivener was promised back in 2012 and the basic requirement of writing on a tablet has not been more eagerly awaited since Moses came down from Mount Sinai. I have no doubt that the guys at Literature and Latte are doing all they can to get this out and the worst thing would be to release it before it was ready. Scrivener has set a high standard and disciples of the software would be disappointed if the iPad version wasn’t the same.

In the mean time we need to carry on writing and I need to keep drinking coffee. (seriously, the problems in my life are just so complex, aren’t they?) So, here’s what we can all do about it until the final solution is delivered.

Writing in an iOS7 Wonderland

icon-ios7I’m in awe when I hear of writers who still use a pen and paper to craft their work. I can’t imagine how long the process must take and how painstaking the edit must be. In this technological world where we all now exist, I wonder how easy it is to still rely on pen and paper. At least you won’t be affected by iOS7.

I type everything, from the planning stage right through to the final draft and I am affected by iOS7. I use the whole Apple suite in my work. I write mainly on an iMac at home, I have an iPad and an iPhone as well. I’ve commented before on how I use the combination, take a look at this post.  But now the landscapes changing, as it does with technology, and in order to stay as productive as you can be, you need to keep up.

How To Sync Your iPad With Scrivener

How to Compile a kindle ebook in scrivenerI’ve been sat like a lemon waiting for Scrivener to come out with an iPad app. This was going to change my world, so I waited. However, it turns out that I was waiting in vain because I can already add/edit my document on the iPad and then just sync it across. Ooh… fancy.

It’s dead easy and if you don’t believe me then just take a look at this from the nice people at Scrivener. (There’s a video at the bottom called Folder Sync) I’m going to run through a very quick step-by-step guide but watch the video if you run in to trouble.

My Indispensable Tools As A Writer

Ever since I was a small child and used to pour over the Casio watches in the Argos book I have loved gadgets. The more features that something has, the more intriguing I find it. Last week was the release of the new iPhone 5 and I have been obsessed with it.

I don’t have one (yet) but I’ve watched the videos on YouTube and studied the tariffs and networks, coverage maps and accessories. To me, it’s gadget porn. Most features obviously offer solutions to problems that you don’t really face in life but that’s not the point. The classic example of this is my current watch that will still function 2,000 ft underwater. Now, if I’m ever 2,000 ft underwater then I would rather have some kind of homing device because it would mean that someone had put concrete shoes on me. Anyway, there are also worthwhile features that have actually made areas of my life easier, so which gadgets and software do I use in my day-to-day life.
