What’s Happening With You? – Progress Update

I am now in my 12th week of this blog and tomorrow will be my 50th post. That’s an average of a post every 1.5 days, or 4.6 posts per week. So, I thought it was about time that I gave a progress report.

I’ve just had a weekend where I caught up with a load of people that I haven’t seen for a while and I realised something. I actually have an interesting life now. I’m interested in it but then again I’ve always been interested in it, so I didn’t think anything had changed. But now other people are interested and this is something that never used to happen when I was an accountant. Therefore, I guess I have a responsibility to share my progress, so here goes…

Blog – (Michael J Holley – Writer)

1,581 hits in 76 days – 21 hits per day

One post featured on the Self-Publishing Blogging Carnival

40 email subscriptions

I committed to writing this blog, nearly every day, in order to share my ups and downs whilst commenting on various writing related news stories. I feel happy that I’ve stuck to this brief pretty well. I’ve been disciplined enough to write a post nearly every day (Mon-Fri) and the only reason I haven’t is due to personal-life matters that couldn’t be avoided.

I’ve stuck to only discussing the specific matters that affect me as a writer who will be self-publishing, even though I’ve found this hard some days. Eventually, when the books get into the final stages, I want to produce some step-by-step guides of how I actually went through the process of self-publishing. I will then package these as free downloads.

As the books near their launch I promise that this blog will become even more exciting, and those that have subscribed by email will have their loyalty rewarded for being so wonderfully beautiful.

Book 1 – The Great Corporate Escape

I have received the 2nd Draft back from 3 beta-readers and am awaiting the last 2 which are currently in the post. Once I have the set, I will systematically work through them and collate similar comments, find common themes and then decide on what to do about them.

I will then write a third draft which, when complete, will be sent to a professional proof-reader/copy editor to polish. (That should be read as ‘clean up’ rather than for it to be translated into Polish) This will then be a 4th and final draft which will be published in all major eReader formats and distributed to the main sites.

The cover is still with the illustrator and I am expecting some samples pretty soon to decide upon. It’s going to be so important to have the cover and professional editing as good as they can be because that’s what the book will stand behind.

Book 2 – Plaster Scene

I originally wrote the 1st draft of this 2 years ago, and I’m currently in the process of editing it for what will become the 2nd draft. After that, it will follow the same process as the other book, so; Beta-Readers, 3rd Draft, Editor, 4th Draft and then BINGO.

The aim is still to get both of these books published before Christmas and I’m sticking to that for the time being. Obviously as the time runs out, the deadline looks more challenging but, as I mentioned last week in my post on deadlines, I’m expecting my productivity to increase as well.

I’ll let you know how it all goes, and post it here first. Please subscribe to this blog by email to receive all of my love when the time comes.

  1. Good progress. I’ll talk to the illustrator! By the way……does 1.5days per post really equate to 4.6 per week? Oh yes, I suppose it does if you only count a 5 day week!
Just discovered that out local library is now offering e-books. More later when I find out detail.

What d'you think?
